about
All proceeds will be donated to families and individuals affected by the recent flooding in the Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, and Lafayette regions of Louisiana.
This song was written while I was serving as a missionary to the people of Louisiana. During my 11 months of service, I would often find myself with my missionary companion in the "ghettos" of Louisiana early in the morning, trying to help our friends get to church. The purpose of this song is to capture the beauty of these places early in the morning as the sun rises, maybe only a straggler or two on the streets.
There are many things about Louisiana that to an outsider might need "fixing". But still there is such beauty, diversity, and love that emanates from this place. Right now, many homes really DO need fixing and rebuilding. If you are looking for a way to help these people, but don't have much to give, consider downloading my song for only 1 dollar and I will pass it on to trustworthy organizations that will help.
lyrics
I know a girl who's on top of the world
Raises her voice to the colors unfurled in the sky
Doesn't understand why
The sun has to set on a another good day
The darkness sets in and sometimes it stays
But it's fine
It's okay
Sun's coming up over telephone wires
Lights broken homes painted colors so wild
Goes for miles
And I smile
But it's fine
It's okay
Things need to be fixed
The roads and the homes
And education system's all wrong
And I cringe as I ponder it
But for now, as the sun comes up and up
I smile, and I smile
This is home, it's been home for a while
So I smile, and I smile
This is home, it's been home for a while
Man staggers home with a brown paper sack
Baby daddy's been gone and he hasn't come back
For a while
Gives a broken tooth smile
Baby boy's at the door with his backpack unzipped
Momma runs out the house and she fixes it quick,
Gives a kiss
And he trips
But it's fine
It's okay
Things need to be fixed
The roads and the homes
And education system's all wrong
And I cringe as I ponder it
But for now, as the sun comes up and up
I smile, and I smile
This is home, it's been home for a while
So I smile, and I smile
This is home, it's been home for a while
For a while, and I smile.
